在中文俗语里，有些比较容易翻译成英文，比如“熟能生巧”，可以直接翻译成“Practice makes
perfect”。
有些则很难直译，比如，“说曹操，曹操到”，要怎么翻译？肯定不会是曹操名字的直译吧？
其实，英语里有一个对应的短语来表达类似的意思，当然和曹操无关~
这个短语就是“speak of the devil”，其实它的完整形式
是“speak of the devil and he shall appear”，但现在一般只用它的简略形式。
因为含有“devil”这个词，这一短语在中世纪时还被禁用，不过都2022年了，咱们已经可以随心所欲地使用啦！

a devil of a job
听起来这个工作就是不很好干的样子... “魔鬼般的工作”，一定不是什么好差事，没错，这个短语指的是那些“非常艰巨的工作，费九牛二虎之力”。
例句：
I'm havinga devil of a jobfixing my car.
我修我这辆汽车可费劲了。
I've hada devil of a jobfinding you.
我费了九牛二虎之力才找到你。
devil's advocate
这个表达指的可不是“恶魔的信徒”，而是指“故意持相反意见的人，故意唱反调的人”，很调皮了。
例句：
Often the interviewer will need to playdevil's advocatein order to get a discussion going.
采访者常常需要故意唱唱反调以使访谈继续下去。
to give the devil his due
并不是所有含有“devil”的词组都是负面含义，比如这个短语的意思是“平心而论，公平对待”。
例句：
He is very unreliable, butto give the devil his due, he is a first-class
mechanic.
他很不可靠，但平心而论，他是一流的机械师。
the devil is in the details
这个表达就很形象了！中文里也有一个能够很好与其对应的翻译“细节决定成败”。
例句：
If people are to be persuaded
a brand is the height of cool,the devil is in the details.
如果大家认为一个品牌是走在时尚前沿的，那么细节是决定成败的关键。
lucky devil
这个短语比较好猜，是指“幸运儿”的意思。
例句：
I envy you,lucky devil, your wife is slender and graceful with fascinating smiles.
我好羡慕你啊！你真是个幸运的家伙，你妻子的身材苗条优美，微笑迷人。
